2005 BOUCHARD
"As the scores and comments
suggest, the Bouchard
'05s are flat out stupendous wines and absolutely deserve a place
in
your cellars."
-Burghound-
Clos Vougeot Burghound 93-96 Points
$164.99
005 Clos de Vougeot: (from 2 similarly sized
parcels 1 at the top and the other at the bottom of the slope.)
Note that I was shown two versions of this wine, one from the
Domaine fruit and another that was purchased. Prost indicated
that there might be two wines released or they might be blended.
The wine reviewed here is from Domaine fruit and was significantly
better than the purchased example. A ripe, reserved and cool nose
of flat out gorgeous complexity leads to beautifully delineated,
powerful and robust flavors that somehow manage to remain understated
on the hugely long and spicy finish. This has the wow factor in
spades and is a strong candidate for the Clos de Vougeot of the
vintage (along with the Leroy and Dr. George Mugneret versions).

Volnay Taillepieds- Burghound 92 Points
$63.99
2005 Volnay Taillepieds: This too is relatively
toasty and very ripe, indeed to the point of where there are notes
of deep plum, mocha, black berry and subtle spice hints that lead
intensely mineral and highly complex and nuanced flavors that
benefit from a distinct sense of lift and detail because the almost
pungent minerality of the firmly structured and hugely long finish.
This isnt really my style but there is no doubting the underlying
quality of the raw material. 92/2013+
Nuits-St-Georges Les Porrets Burghound
89-92 Points $55.99
2005 Nuits St.-Georges Les Porrets: A mildly
toasty nose features notes of earth, game and red and dark berry
fruit that precede the rich, full and fleshy flavors that possess
a beguiling and admirable concentration on the punchy, firmly
structured and nicely complex finish. (89-92)/2015+
Beaune du Chateau 1er Cru- Burghound 89
Points $35.99
2005 Beaune du Chateau 1er: (a blend of different
1ers, each of which was vinified separately separately; the first
vintage for this wine was in 1907). The fruit character is slightly
riper with relatively moderate oak influence that serves to highlight
the red berry fruit and delicious but serious flavors that are
clearly fashioned in a more forward and accessible style. 89/2010+
