The Next Big Thing in Pinot.

2005 Lioco Michaud Vineyard
Pinot Noir
Lioco is poised to be the next big thing. They have a cogent
plan that involves presenting the best California has to offer,
but with a Burgundian sensibility. This is manifest in their Pinot
from the Michaud vineyard, located in the cooler, higher altitude
northern end of the Chalone appellation (AVA). The saturated,
yet limpid ruby hue is visually enticing, but the aromatics will
really wow you. The fragrant bouquet features notes of pomegranate,
black raspberry, and blackberry fruit notes. Complementing the
fresh fruit notes are aromas of violets, truffle, Mocha Java coffee,
freshly buttered English muffin, cassis, anise and vanilla –
the various aromatic components unite to create an ethereal perfume.
If possible the palate ramps up the intensity even more, with
a potpourri of delectable fruit that is nicely balanced by bright
acidity, providing perfect symmetry to the rich expansive fruit.
And a persistent finish seems to linger on into perpetuity. This
is the whole enchilada with precise focus, precise balance and
luscious fruit. We are vastly excited about his new find and after
you try the wine you will understand why. Probably the most accurate
descriptor for the wine is DAMN THAT’S GOOD! Wonderful to
drink now, but your patience will pay dividends for the next 6-9
years.
